Eagle Island is a huge part of my life experience. My sisters, Casey and Squirt, and I thrived there for many summers. What a fun web site. I just read an entry from Ellen Fein who patiently taught me sailing in 1966 and 67. Thanks for all the memories of fun, love and laughter. I hope to attend women's weekend this year for my annual "island fix."

so last night i was babysitting and surfing channels and somehow i landed on channel 51, i dont know what station it was but here in milwaukee its 51... anyway they were doing a documentary commemorating sports illustrated's 40th anniversary of their swimsuit edition, and the reason the show caught my eye was that they were doing a shoot in the adirondacks, and then i found out it was saranac lake. so i was excited... and then they were talking about the lakes beauty and all of its great camps (!!!) and i was so happy... until they had the models dressed up as "camp counselors" in really tiny cutoff wet t shirts that had camp counselor screen printed on them. so i dont know... if you or someone you know gets the sports illustrated swimsuit edition just take a look and see that theyre on saranac lake. :)

Lots of great memories!
We have brought my daughter and many friends camping over on Upper Saranac Lake. Green Isle was a favorite camping spot for a while.

Hey everyone.
I'm in my Comp Sci class and I've got nothing to do, so I'd thought I'd come here and say hi. I miss camp and everyone lots. But its almost that time of the year when the brochure comes out and I jump up and down and read the whole thing cover to cover even though I've long ago made my decisions. And at that point I know that soon I'll be trying to fill out those stupid forms that ask me what new things I want to learn this year and then I know soon I'll be sitting on my backpack playing SWAT and then I know that soon I'll be sailing in the bay in a Tanzer. So, in short, camp is not that far off. Yay. And now that I've spent a good deal of my time, I'll say bye and I miss you all.

My sister Caryl and I were both campers at EIC and came up each summer from Houston, Texas. At that time, only girl scouts from New Jersey attended the camp but our uncle's company provided the camp food so we got in under the wire. I remember the EIC so vividly and loved every summer I was there...we always stayed for 2 months since we came from so far away.
I especially remember the waterfront and earning my blue cap when I finally overcame my fear of diving! I also remember the wonderful smell of the pine trees and writing letters home on the bark of the white birch trees...probably not very p.c. today! "Peace I ask of thee, old river" was my favorite song and I fondly remember Happy the nurse who played the bugle, trips to Church Isle, living in tents and hearing the soothing sound of the water lapping nearby and cooking out hamburgers that were made of I don't know what...but they were delicious. It was a most peaceful time and many wonderful friendships were made there. My sister and I returned for a visit about 15 years ago and were happily amazed at how little the camp had changed. Everything seemed much smaller of course but we had a great weekend...we even had to pass a swim test before we were allowed to take out a canoe! Let me tell you, if you think the water was cold when you were a kid, it was 100 times colder as an adult. I hope the camp will go on forever!

So I came to this website today to check on the guestbook, see who'd signed recently, and I see on the main page *2004* Session Summary!!!!! Not all that interesting, but very exciting-camp is not that far off! Only about 5.5 months!!! And the brochure'll be out in not that long!! I am super de happy! Cause I am a very campsick sailor girl- everything reminds me of the rock. Like in chorus the other day, we got these dumb songs to sing, and they were photocopied from a book, and on the edge of one sheet, you could see the edge of Both Sides Now! It was so exciting! So I sang that to myself in my head while the class sang "You Are My Sunshine" (and I thought I was in 9th grade...wait I am, I just have an insane chorus teacher). And then, yesterday, I was skiing. At lunch the topic of me and sailing came up, and this boy Joe was like, "Well there can't be that much to sailing..." and I proceeded to tell him the watermelon pit theory until he got my point. And on the lift, we were shouting random things at people below, I suggested singing American Pie, but no one else knew the lyrics! Stupid people. But my day ended nicely with a nice dose of campiness from the one and only Funyak. Listening to her (well I sorta helped too)newly compiled camp CDs cured the lack of camp I had experienced earlier. And now I've got Desperado stuck in my head. Which is okay. Anyway, i miss you all. See you in 5.5 months! Anyone wishing to stowaway in my suitcase to go sailing at this cool sailing place in Antigua in a few weeks, theres still a little space, but you'll need to squash w/Sarah Burpee and possibly Funyak.
Love,
Allie

I just found this website after hearing "One Tin Soldier" on the radio and felt all nostalgic. I went to EIC from 1986-1992 and was a Junior couselor that last year. They were the most amazing times ever!!! Go Islanders! So if anyone out there still checks this site out from EIC, I just want to say that I still have many camp memories, too many! My friends always laugh at me when I tell a story and say for me "One time, at camp..." Great memories never die. I'd love to hear from those I knew: chicparm@yahoo.com

my first year at EIC was in '97, my first time ever at sleep away camp, and the experience i had was so amazing, that i returned for the following five or so years. i even persuaded my family (which wasnt hard at all, as they had seen pictures and heard fantastic stories--wanted to see camp for themselves)to go up for family camp. after i moved to wisconsin, getting to the island was quite an ordeal. making arrangements to fly into new jersey, then stay with a friend for a few nights and then hop on the bus, stay at camp, come back on the bus, fly home, etc, was a little to hectic, and although my love for the island was as present as ever, i could not return. i had been accepted into a youth competitive sailing program here in milwaukee, which consumed my summers. although i am still very involved with my sailing team, and have traveled throughout the midwest with them, i can honestly say that no place compares in beauty to saranac lake and the adirondack mountains. sailing on saranac is so private, you feel tucked into and hidden by the mountains surrounding you. and being on the island feels like your own personal hideout during the summer, for you and 100 of your best girlfriends. as the mid winter blues set in every year, i remember a few years back, when their cure was simply registering for camp and beginning the countdown. and every year, as summer draws closer, i remember how i would make my packing list, and buy my stationary, and just become filled with joy that in less than a month or so, i would step foot on my home away from home. not being able to return to the island still kills, so much of me is there. it helped me to grow up, camp teaches you lessons that cant be learned anywhere else. returning to this site after over a year is so bittersweet. but enough of my reminiscing. im done. if anyone remembers me, feel free to email! itd be much appreciated.

I am trying to avoid writing papers by remembering old times...sigh! I live in way too sunny California now, in the Studio City area. I do a little bit of everything these days but mostly work my butt off trying to get a master's degree from UCLA. I worked on Big Brother this summer for CBS and I will probably do it again this summer but I want to try and organize a reunion of sorts at women's weekend this summer!!! I'm looking for the Sailors of the Oreo cult and all the gals that lived through the summer where the red squirrels lost it and started stealing everything! You all know who you are! When finals are over next week I am emailing the heck out of this guestbook!!! Love to all and email me!!! Even if you don't know me!!!

I sang my son to sleep tonight with Green Trees, Peace, and Taps...is that the order? There are a whole host of folks I'd love to find out about...Has anyone heard from Mary Dougherty or Julie Van Steen? It's like I lived there while I grew up far more than I lived anywhere else. It's who I am, the good bits and bad. Wow.

My favorite memories include playing sticky wicket, regattas, and all camp olympics.

Hey all! Yakkity-yak that's Funny, you rock my world! Who else would write a superlong guestbook entry of pure funyakian insanity that can so easily let me procrastinate doing my homework? Anyway, I haven't signed in awhile, so here I am. As does the crazy one, everything reminds me of camp. This one day, in chorus, we got this piece written by Nolan E. Schimdt, and I think "That's Sarah and Nora's name!" And also that it's a funny name. :)Anyway, that same day, we were singing a different song, and the word "avarice" was in it, and I thought of the Voices line in reded where they say "but not on avarice bent" or something like that. Completely random, and it's crazy that a word can remind you of so much. I miss everyone like crazy- but this year has been awesome for seeing camp friends away from camp- I've seen you guys (well Beth and Lizzie anyway) almost every weekend for like a month. It's awesome. I wear my scrubs (the ones you guys signed)a lot, and I read all of the messages- from "Impossible, Possible" down the legs, to "I'll never forget what the fairleader is!" to the Taylor Parody to the Japanese messages from Claire (well I can't actually read those, but they look cool). My school friend and I have this ongoing argument of "My camp is cooler than yours" and of course, I'm right. Right now the focus is on the camp Bar/Bat Mitzvahs we've recently attended, and I am positive she can't have had as much fun as I did with u guys at Rebecca's. Dancing to "Oh What A Night" was great in itself. Well lets face it, anything with camp people is great. Okay, I must return to my homework. Hopefully I'll see you guys sometime soon, and if not, theres only about 9 more months til camp! Time to see how the length of my message compares with Funyak's....
Love from Allie

Some of my very fondest childhood summer memories occured on Eagle Island. I attended Eagle Island for about 5 summers, usually in August. I was always part of the sailing unit and loved everything about it...especially as I worked hard to get up the ranks (my regret is that I never got a chance to solo for the captain rank) I vividly remember Sundays having to wake up early and leave several hours earlier than others at camp to get to church island on time (while those who took the Ark motored past us waving hello and goodbye). I loved the fresh blueberries picked from the numerous bushes, the chilly mornings (though I disliked the early morning swim classes in cold lake water!) the beautiful sunsets, and the camp gatherings in the lodge. The songs, the comradary, the candles that we sent off into the lake on the last night of camp. I cried when I left home on my way to camp...and I cried when I had to go home. Extra sailing adventures on Lake Champlain were an added treat as was the water skiing. It was was there that I learned about the combination only a kid could love:bread, butter and sugar. I could go on and on. I'm hoping that my 11 year old daughter will want to attend one of these summers, and I'm looking into a family weekend after recently learning that the camp is still operational.

Don't you feel secure knowing you have a lasagna in your freezer? Hi Yall! I Haven’t signed is quite a bit (ok so I have but hey)I hope life is alright for all and fair weather foreword... Isn't so weird/funny how Eagle Island things just come up when you are least expecting them? Like freaky coincidences...don don dooonnnnn! Ok so I was writing a letter to Nikki From Islanders (Nikki A.) and I was listening to this weird new radio station and December 1963 (Oh, What a Night) Came on- I was like whoa- Freaky! and literally started to dance with my imaginary eic family frolicking all around me. Thenn.. I was writing a letter to Nicky (Sahody- hehehe- can't help it :-p) and then Gimmie the Beat Boys (whatever the title is)came on- and we did that song in our "sing-off" and Nicky was one of the Judges- I was like Whoa- Freaky! And thennnn I went White Water Rafting two Saturdays ago- SO FUN! And there are so cool outdoorsy people ther- just like eic- Whoot Whoot! And so the leader person- Wheezer (don’t ask me) Who is like incredibly awesome as well, has the same cool personality as Parmo, Lauren Parmo- It must be an “I love my sport and water is super cool” thing… (Just like the awesome Liz- on the Mystic Whaler Trip-sailor almighty- Ohhh bouy bouy bouy gods pleaaasseee…) They are all realllly fun and I don’t know just kind o remind me of each other with the way they talk, their personalities, and gestures) I was like Whoa- Freaky! And wet suites and bathing caps are sooo in fashion! Anyway… We also went to V-A-SS-A-R a very coolio college in PoughKEEPSIE- that’s right! PoughKEEPSIEEEE! Yes- cool people live there- you are loved. Vassar is a very cool place- and so are the Barefoot Monkeys and Jenny, Emma, and Emily. Weeeeee Ninja! (ninjas are ALWAYS fun) And on the way back we passed that biiiiig, black, glossy (almost the same scheme as a black tape dispenser from IKEA {a triply cool place}) We pass it on the way to and from camp from Montclair so Whoopie- I was like Whoa- Freaky! And so the story goes; camp- tear tear, sniff sniff… Then- I’m not sure when – but I proceeded to watch two Hours of Trading Spaces – The 100,000 K episode- whoopee –and I still love you monster garage and Junkyard wars!- ok…. Just a tad random…. I love to study social studdies listening to Bruce Springsteen! In one of his songs he says (if any of you can tell what he's saynin)And eye for an eye- THE CODE OF HAMMURABI (spelling?) OH YEAH! WHO'S GOOD NOW? And then we had a super cool time at Ms. Rebecca Bar’s bat mitzvah! The dj actually played stuff we requested! Yay- and yes lizzie and beth when I got home I just had to download “I Would Walk 500 Miles”- The Proclaimers – yes quite obsessed now-strange—and Allie M.B.W (hah) and I are now intent on learning to play the Harmonica – YAY SHAD! NANTUCKET- MOOO- JOE- (Jason-hehe) And ELINE ROCKS MY WORLD- we had a great time in other words- haha -We miss you Claire! And last coinky-dink…. I was cleaning my room (wow- that’s and oxymoron- Funyak cleaning her room) and I was using a broom and I was swinging it about and I ALMOST hit my light- tear I didn’t- I was like whoa- Freaky! Unfortunately it didn’t make a cool pop sound- Yay light bulb cool sound popping in the Unit House! I love you guys! Our health class also had to do a project – you keep an egg for 7 days and pretend it’s a real baby and I named Mine NIKKI FROM ISLANDERS! Whoot whoot! We went on a photo shoot together! YAY ok think that’s about it! I love you all! Whoa- FREAKY! Ok—weeeelll that’s about it- I LOVE YOU MORE ANNIE! e-mail me! I miss you girls- more like guys! Over and Out! WhoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo- SMACK! Later-
Love Always,
Funyak
p.s Thank you Teeny Weenie (Melissa) for asking your science teacher (I think it was) If I was hallucinating! Indians --- River---- White settlers---ZZZZZZZZZ-

Wonderful memories of my summers on the island. I was on the phone with my sister, Kitty, reading the guestbook and remembering. Kitty's daughter, Meghan Bury, spent her second summer at the island, and I hope that my daughter joins her soon. Hello to Gretchen. I am also looking for Henry. I hope to get to Women's Weekend in 2004 with a few of my sisters.

I could not for the life of me remember the name of this camp. I searched all over the internet and finally found it. When I saw the pics of the lodge, it took me right back all over again, and I cried. I had the best summer of my life here. I remember crying the first few nights in my tent, but within a week, I never wanted to go home. The year I was there there was a councelor named Eileen- she had a twin sister, maybe someone remembers her, and we attended camp together. I cant remember for sure what year I went, but it was somewhere between 85 and 87.

Hey Yall! Funyak, Caitlin, and Ally O'Malley reporting for duty! Ok Well funyak is typing, Caitlin is sitting in a big office chair talking to Funyak and Ally O is catching some zzzzz's- Pft... yeah she must be REALLLYYY tired becuase she is actually going to sleep wow! Look at this time we signed this! Whoot Whoot! Camp memories- camp is NOT for sleeping or showers.Well anyway... HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY TO CAITLIN! yAY (so it was actually yesterday) Butttt..... so today Ally O'Malley, Beth Artemis Biglin, Funyak Steck, and Caitlin Thompson, all skippity dooeed over to Applebees. We had a fun, fun, fun time here! We we ordered hot guys (medium rare) and Singers. HAHAHAHAH! Caitlin got distracted every other seccond at our window seat and would rate every guy that walked by untill funyak resorted to blocking her view with the menue. Then at dessert- frying ice cream-the waitress stands up and screams, "Attention Applebees! We have a special day today! It's Caitlin's 16th Birthday!" And then they sang a wierd little clappy singy thingy. It was sooo funny. Then we went into the bathroom and took realllly long stretches of those brown paper towel roll thingies and made them into belts and necklaces. We wore these oh so fashionalble accessories the rest of the night and at the mall! Then we went to Build-A-Bear workshop! You are NEVER too old! Well anyway the four of us made koala bears! :-) YAY! And then we had fun stiffing the bear at the heart stuffing ceremony (putting the hearts on your head and spinning around)Then the guy made us say, "CAITLIN IS THE COOLEST PERSON IN THE WORLD" AND then we went and dressed our bears and then when we were leaving, we decided to have an EIC moment! Caitlin chose (or rather we selected ouselves) the three of her favorite campers- tough decision out of Beth, Ally and Funyak! And then we got down on our knees and sang happy birthday! and then we screamed at the top of our lungs "We LOVE OUR BUILD-A-BEARS!" YAYAYAYA!!!!! SOOO much! We had a grand ol time! Good times...good times... hahahaha thats funny we started this entery at aroun 2:30 and with some technical difficuties and "talking" breaks we managed to finish! Even if it was 1 hour and 1/2 later! Haha- so reporting live on all of the 4:07 am fun this has been Ally O'Malley, Caitlin, and Funyak! oxoxox- later

This weekend Terri Zimmer and I braved the weekend camping with our moms at Fish Creek. As everyone knows, it's not a trip to Saranac Lake without going to EIC. Terri and I rented kayaks and headed down the Narrows, against the wind (as always), and paddled off in search of less stressful days and crazy camp fun. And that is just what we found.
To my surprise, on the boathouse porch was one of my first campers, Lauren, a.k.a. Alex, there for Work Weekend. She was smiling and waving just like she was when she was ten, but to my surprise, she is now a college student, and an amazing person, studying Sign Language and roping her friends into community service projects. As counselors, we have big dreams for our campers, but we are truly honored and impressed when they come true. I'm so happy I got some time to catch up with her again.
Pete and Beth, the parents of the island in my mind, greeted us with warm welcomes, camp updates, and mandatory orders to eat. Somethings never change.
Marylou was in the kitchen with her apron on gave us hugs and showed us pictures of her grandchildren. Bill and his wife Becky, who offered me warm clothes within 3 seconds of walking into the dining hall, I appreciate your kindness.
Even with the long trip back to Fish Creek, Terri and I shared camp stories of years past, took in the scenery, talked about how much our arms would hurt the next day. They did, but it was all worth it. EIC made us kids again for at least one day, floating lunches, water fights, camp songs and good friends. I miss it already.

Hey all. Tomorrow is the first of September, and school starts for me in 4 days. I'll be shut up inside a giant high school where the days will drone on, mountainless, lakeless, sailboatless, and campless. Without these things, though, I am still reminded every second of camp and miss it incredibely. Okay, screw the trying to write nicely, I'll just make a list like everyone else.
Memories of this summer:
-Funyak's songs- "the Artemis", "Annie", "Nikki From Islanders" etc.
-screaming "Taylor the Latte Boy", "William" and "Gray Squirrel remix at the top of our lungs until we lost our voices
-doing a million 360s in a row in the Tink, cause its fun, and despite the wishes of the rest of the crew
-our little a** hole (somehow i can't bring myself to write that on a girl scout message board) group- playing after Ampersand, at the boathouse, plans for e-mail games
-bubbles on the last night
-puppy tattoos in strange places
-bathing cap fashion
-the ballet foot for song Contest
-late night talks in the unithouse
-listening to Sarah N. read from "His Greatest temptation", then fitting 14 people into middie to listen to similar CIA novels- lemme just say this- IMPOSSIBLE....POSSIBLE
-beating a Flying Scott that had two old people in matching pink...i mean 2 buff young men with anchor tattoos in a race in the arty
Okay I have millions more memories, but I'm going to end here. I miss everyone and everything and hope to see people, arranged or not, before next year.
-Allie
Note to Beth "Artemis" Biglin: I love how serious your entry was and how you signed it in the same way, but with your err.. full name. And that had me laughing for a good long time so I thought I'd give u a special note.

Hey hey hey everyone!
It's four of your friendly CITs of 2003...and we are a bit campsick. So after noticing an entry trend the guestbook...we wanted to join in so we can remember all the good times from his past summer!(not that we don't reminisce daily...but hey!) So here we go....a list of all the good times the CITs had this summer....
-our sign..and the many adventures it led us on
-lounging(or not lounging) in the CIT lounge
-rolling down a hill in lake placid for ohh....a good 20 minutes.
-matchsticks...and matchsticks...and glue...and some more matchsticks...and some glue..and matchsticks..and some wood....and some paint...and matchsticks...and more matchsticks....and some more paint...and more matchsticks....and did we say some more matchsticks. (can we say... staff plaque was LIFE)
-NOT singing a line to our old song contest song....hahaha! we can't even remember it to type it now!
-sleepytime tea time!
-enacting revenge....that may still be coming to some of you...dun dun dun!
-"THE COOLNESS OF THE FALLING RAIN!"(that's the line by the way!)
-Forever....
-Baking brownies....
-the nalges!! re-rain-tain!! and cam cam!
-our jewish names
-parodies to sounds of silence that cheer us up.
-Bon Jovi and his songs....(and dances)
-thinking "TEXAS" during our song contest practices
-Having Lake Placid men hit on us...("this pucks for you!"..."i have a dollar")
-writing in our always oh-so-updated CIT journals
-using the SG in the showerhizzouse for 2 1/2 HOURS!
-our 1/2 hour canoe trip to our overnight spot
-going running with athletically induced asthma
-being a counselor and lifeguard in training
-singing about puppies & candy & car rides.....and Little Boxes...on the hillside....made of ticky tacky...

....and that is about it....we are drained of our good times... so we'll just let you all know that we miss you all, and can't wait until we see you all next summer!
Love, Kath, Stef, Hillary, and Allie

I can't believe this site has existed for so long & I just found out about it! (thankyou Pete & Beth). I also can't believe I haven't been back to EIC in 14 years! I was a camper in Drifters in 1975 (Cindy, weren't you my tentmate?) then in Sailing in 75 & 76. I worked in the kitchen in 77 and was a CIT at Henrey Hoover in 78. (that's where Moose talked me into a nursing career - do you remember that viral epidemic?). I've been a Pediatric nurse (mostly in hospitals, schools, transports & peds ICU), in Ca then VT, then Morris Co, and back again in Nutley (how did that happen?) Anyway I came back to EIC as a nurse in 88 & 89 and just finally got back there this year with my 2 children (Ian age 7 & Alexandria age 10 & now addicted to the EIC spirit) for family camp. For those of you who knew Russ (A&C in 89), we got married in 90 but he left in 97 :( or should it be :)
Memories: The sound of the halyards on the aluminum masts of the 14 ft blue & white Tanzers, sunsets off Mariner's Rock (we did that every night during family camp), the creaking sound of the waterfront dock as staff/campers walk on it or waves pass under, the veiw from everywhere, the smell of pine & fresh air, learning to play the guitar (haven't pick that up much in the past 14 years either until family camp - comes back pretty quick!), making freinds, then seeing them again 30 years later (at family camp)! Staff pictures in the Ark, the welcome song sang by the counselors in a kickline on change day on the service dock and again lined up from the lodge to the waterfront singing "The only Green" holding candles on final campfire night. My favorite songs: "On The Loose", "Prodical Son", "Catch the Wind" with "Water is Wide", "Mighty Big Ways" for GS Sunday on Chapel Island. (And many more!)
I love the pictures, I'd like to post some from family camp but, (being the computer illiterate I am), I don't know how. Cindy, thanks for this site

i cant even explain in words how awesome camp was this year.i got back from camp a little while ago and i got back from family camp yesterday. i've been going to EIC for...a really long time and this year was by far the best. and ahh, yes, just like many others have done and always do here are some things i am NEVER going to forget.
-the unforgettable ferns in Upper end...need i say more?
-the 8, um maybe we should stay away from that subject.
-the 6 cheese seducers
-our secret language that just freaked out most of the counselors
-skipping arts and crafts............
-the typical EIC drama that happens evry year, without fail.
-hair cutting in the unit house
-hair cutting in the infirmary with Ce Ce's mom. AHH, good times.
-stealing cecilia's white teddy bear...twice.
-bagel throwing
-selling my flashlight for 20 bucks and then using my money extremely wisely. that might have been the best 20 bucks ever.
-Ce Ce's boom boom room. omg.
-dragging pillows down to mariners rock at 1:00 in the with Stephan and Aly and trying to make S.O.S. signs to people across the lake.
-i dont really fell like typing much more.
-everyone at camp
-family camp
Good
times, Good times. i miss u all and i luv u all. xox-Dani

It's 1:49 in the morning. And the CIT's (four of us) have been on a conference call since eleven, and we're loving every min. of it. It's a Phone Reunion!!!! We've been recapping this summer, and we just want to thank everyone for making our CIT summer unforgettable!! We miss everyone soooooooooo much!!! We wish we could be back on the island talking to eachother face to face, instead of on the phone. (incase you didn't know...we're on the phone.) We're not sure what to write now...our creative juices just aren't flowing properly. (Are they Ever?) Look...we learned big words today: Propylene glycol, Sambucus nigra extract....Don't know what they mean...? Well neither do we! We can't wait to come back next year...and see...EVERYONE!!!!! We're going to be counting down the days till camp starts next summer. Well it's 2:09, yes it did take us 20 min. to write this, and we're going to end this now b/c we're crazy amounts of tired. We LOVE you ALL and MISS you like CRAZY!! (why did I just capitalize random words?)
-Love the CIT's(four of us)
And now time for a meaningful quote:
-Little Boxes Little Boxes...Little Boxes Made of Ticky Tacky!
-We Miss our BFF AE AE!
-This message has been brought to you today by Allie. Who is going to be forced to pay this massive phone bill!!

This year at EIC was the best ever. The past 4 weeks were the best of my life. After Paddlers second session, I didn't think it could get any better, but it did when I went into Sailors. (not to be mean to my fellow Paddlers, but Sailing was so cool.) I didn't want to leave the island and can't wait to return next year. I was a bit nervous about all the changes when I arrived second session, but they didn't really matter, because my group became family, like nothing I had ever experienced befoe. It was the same when I became a Sailor. I just hope that they don't change too much more because some of the traditions are starting to change and disappear. I want to say hi to EVERYONE who was at EIC 2nd or 3rd session 2003. I hope everyone had as great of a time as I did at EIC.
Love,
Beth Artemis Biglin

OMG! Camp was so much fun this year! even though it was my second year, i loved it! I was a paddler, and the trip was wet! the first night it rained.. the second day, we canoed, and it didnt rain until after we went to bed. The third day, we couldnt get the fire started, so we had chocolate chip burritos, brown sugar burritos, granola bars, and cold oatmeal... it was fun though. We did the bay watch run at a near by swimming spot.
I miss camp so much!

I have many fond memories of camp: the 50's sock hop, singing contest, the cold shower (not so fond), the Ark, a dog named Spice, the forget-me-not flowers that grew every where, and much more.

So I don't even know where to start this entry.. I am sooo camp sick! I left camp about a week ago (last Sunday) and have been wanting to go back since I stepped on the mainland. I got back from hockey camp yesterday, and now I have a week before third session ends to sit at home thinking about how I could be on the island. I'm pretty sure I say this every summer when I get home, but I think it was the hardest to leave this year. This was probably my best summer... so many good memories! As I write this I am listening to Walk of Shame (this will only mke sence to a few people) and basically reliving this summer. It was only two weeks, but definatly two of the best weeks ever.
So, since I just took 3 tylenol PMs (I managed to get myself real sick at hockey camp) I think I am going to get into bed and try and get some sleep! I miss you all soo much! Love, Allie
*you are the moment that i seek, you are my strength when i am weak, you are my one true home*

(Actually- Maplewood, N.J) Well anyway after one extrvaganly fun California trip and SOOOOOO many weeks of waiting it is almost camp yay! Lets see there is something like less than six days left till that wonderfull trip on the bus at the best time of day (i am talking about 5:30 am ofcourse) and where the bathroom in the bus has that wittle window that you can stick your hand out of and how it's cherry scented and the seats on the bus are oh so very very fuffy- just like sitting on 53 1/4 bunny rabbits! And then there is this wonderful joy of ariving at the mainland dock and seeing all those people you know coming back from 2nd session and incessantly banging on the window untill the chaparone yells at you or you finally realize the windows are tinted and the peole outside can neither see or hear you. And then there is that excitement of lugging your stuff to the ark (who is spitting on you as you are boarding on that little wooden stool) and the joy of getting a life jacket that is adult size and it creeping up your neck so everyone mistakes you for a turtle and when you first get onto the sevice dock and take a great big inhale of the heaha heah (sorry just inhaled exaust from the ark- I forgot you have to walk up to the infirmary first)-anyway and you smell those wonderfull pine trees and that ever so flamable tinder on the sqishy ground. And then the joy of the big happy family of the spaghetti dinner- and lets not forget the introduction to the sneeze bar.) and then there is that first taste of how many times you will be walking into that useless center pole in the new dining hall and that look in the eyes of campers the years before gazing up at the newly resirected flags, staff plaqu, and capers. And then that wonderfull first unit house meeting. Where everyone from session 2 starts to sing songs from the song contest and you feel so very very left out - not knowing what to do... and then you go around that big happy sailor family and say your name and your pet and then that wonderfull first use of the Unit washroom where you have so many fond memories like cleaning the floor by hand and changing the what-not boxes and SIMPLE GREEN - don don na nah!!! (the only cleaner sutible for those 5 star automatic- filling toilets) and then that first climb into that warm comfortable cot after a debate about who gets the extra matress that reads in orange highlighter "I love my Nora- we've got mice in our tent but thats o.k cuz kate and emma are kittens" and then that first cry of the loon (lolololooooolooooo looon) that makes you ever so woozy untill the rock drifts you off to sleep! No no no I LOVEEEEEEEEe camp soooo much and I cant wait !!!!! I miss you all so much and I hope to see you soon! Much Love- Funs

hi...I just stumbled across this site after spending a steamy week in Boston and longing for the cool Saranac waters. Is it really the 100th anniversary this summer? I'd love to know more about it. The best summers of my life were spent first as a camper and then as a counselor. I'll never forget my sailing days in Islander and teaching swimming on the waterfront. Human croque was a blast...I was there the summer Scooter cut his finger making an adirondack chair...anyone remember that? Has anyone heard from Gina Decker?

Has anyone heard from Lois F., who used "George" as her camp nickname and was a counselor in 1969 and the director in 1971?

I am now 46, living in Brooklyn, New York, and working as an office temp. The girls from Eagle Island that I have kept up with are the ones who also went to school with me: Sherry Berggren is a psychologist in North Carolina, Ellen Hamingson is a wildlife expert in San Francisco, Jane Lowell is an electrical engineer in Massachusetts, and I'm not sure what Sara Schechner is doing, but I know she has two children, is divorced, and lives in Maryland.

I hope to hear from others who had the island camping experience!

would anyone be willing to make a song book this summer, type up all the songs that have been sung at eic for the past decade or however far back youre willing to go, transfer it into an acrobat reader file, and share with with all eic'ers. i know i would love to have something like that. i know theres a song book at camp with all the lyrics to camp songs new and old that the cits made a couple years ago. the songs on the website arent the most popular ones. if anyone whos returning this summer is interested in doing that, i know it would be much appreciated.

Hey there everyone!
So... another summer on the island has started! It's so weird to think that I am not there for it. Every summer I've spent on the island I've always gone 1st session, so its hard for me to actually realize that people are on the island in July...and I'm not one of them. I think when I head up there 2nd session as a CIT I will have myself convinced that it is actually 1st session, and it is still early July. Well..I really just signed to say that I love and miss you all! I hope everyone on the island, everyone that will soon be on the island, and everyone that won't be returning this year are having a great summer.
...and remember.... "if we sing the same song we will never be alone"
-Kathleen Mcconks
P.S: anyone know who else is going to be a CIT this summer? I'd love to get an idea of what the unit is gonna look like.

Eagle Island is one of the most beautiful and special places on earth. We are sooooo lucky to have the opportunity to go there. I've enjoyed it as a kid camper, family camper, women's and work weekender & troop leader. My daughters Christine and Beth have spent several seasons there as campers then CIT/staff. We hope to get back there some day soon.

hey ladies-- unfortunately, this will be my second summer not returning to eic. working as an instructor at the yacht club here consumes my whole summer. however, because i wont be able to dance in the lodge or the dining hall at the end of session ice cream party to wonderful eightes songs and whatnot, i want to make an eagle island cd, with songs that remind me of camp. i.e. "girls just wanna have fun", "lean on me", "rock the boat" (although when ive done searches for this song on kazaa, the only results i get are for the song done by alliyah)but yeah, if ANYONE knows of songs that remind them of camp, send me the title and artist name! my email is cd746@aol.com and hey, if you suggest songs, ill even make you a copy and send it free of charge to your very own home! thanks... i miss everyone! peace, casey

It's that time again to set up camp. The days are warm, the nights are cool, and the lake is still chilly. Energetic and industrious people are needed to share the fun of setting up tents, and moving beds and mattresses. There's work for all skills and talents. This is a great way to bond with old and new friends at our favorite Adirondack camp. We always have fun while working and socializing. Hope to see you there!

I'm quite interested in getting my hands on a songbook of the time. Calling all you guitar players! I know those quater-size notebooks must still be out there somewhere! I am still good friends with Susie P. and Lorrie ...they were both at my wedding.. and Lor stopped over last night on her way to Saranca for a visit... I really would like to get up there this year for a visit and show my husband Saranac... So to everyone I knew, thanks for all the laughs. I loved camp... :)

Camp Eagle Isalnd was the best experience in my life. My mom ans her sisters went to Eagle Isalnd as kids.In the 50's. I went there for 8 years straight. 1980 to 1988. My last few years I was in the sailing group. My family and I also used to come up for family camp. I have an album from camp, which I don't look at too often...The last memory I have of camp is leaving, I had gone to camp for 2 months that summer. I always stayed as long as I possibly could. I had also worked the family camp session that year. I was a sailing instructor. One of my friends, I think her name was Jenny? her mom was the nurse at the camp. She was moving to Canada, and I knew I would never see her again. My mom took a picture of me waving goodbye and crying. That picture brings back so many memories for me! There are a few names I remember, if anyone is in contact with them: Paige Lawless, Karen Palmer, Andrea Dory, Scooter, Joyce Strong, Rachel Carpenter, Thea Sizemore, So many people so many memories!

I hadn't thought about Eagle Island in a long time -- I came across this site and had to show my husband what Eagle Island looked like. I was a CIT waaaay back in 1978. I still remember the girls I hung out with like it was yesterday, including Ginger Hurley, Kathy Daddario, Tracy Monk, and Veda Odessa Antoine. Having two boys and living in Tennessee makes going back to Eagle Island a long shot, but who knows...

More than 10 years after my last session at EIC, I still miss it! I think about my years at camp so often and I see that many former campers continue to check out this site and remind themselves of the experience. How lucky we are to have had the chance to live at EIC. Hope all the current campers have a great summer!

Guess what, i found some guestbook entries that had been lost in the "luminiferous ether" of cyberspace. So I've placed them in here, with a note of their original timestamp. sorry 'bout that.

Hey everyone!! All this warm weather is making me soo anxious for camp! The wind's been really good here lately too, which makes me wish i could be sailing on saranac on a windy day, laughing, talking, and singing with a bunch of my closest friends in the world. I miss everyone so much!!
Ohhh---for any of you who've heard the baloney story--it was my 18th birthday a couple weeks ago (...so I didn't see Baloney for the longest time...til my 18th birthday...). Yeah...and guess what I got!!! Baaaaloney lunchmeat AND a trampoline (both from Rebecca and Tessa)...it was great!!! And we took pictures jumping on the trampoline with Baloney!! Hehehe....we were gonna bring the trampoline to college too because we went to a Miami U. open house the next day...but then we decided we might look just a little strange...oh well! Hope everyone is having a great spring! Camp's not too far away!

Hi All,

Haven't visited this site in ages, and decided it was about time. I've been reading back through old entries and they have been bringing back loads of good memories. It's 2 years this summer since I was last at EIC and it feels like so much longer than that. Hopefully I will make it back at some stage in the future, if only for a visit. Hi to all staff/campers that were there summers 2000 & 2001. All those returning this year, have a great summer (which goes without saying really!)

OK, take care everyone,

Love KP
