Comments: Hey everybody, I just sent in my application for EIC'99 and I can't wait for July( who's idea was it to start camp on the 2nd week of the month?). I just wanted to say that I miss camp so much(even the freezing lake), and I hope everything turns out okay this summer, because as you all know these past couple of summers have been, umm, trying. I think Sara, Lily, and Louisa, though their views are different (read their messages), all have the right idea in keeping the spirit of the island alive, through whatever challenges EIC is put through. I hope everybody continues on into this summer with the same attitude, be it through singing 'On the Loose' at dinner and more then just the Birdie and Duck songs at breakfast, or just enjoying having a new experience at camp. For those of you out there who know what I am talking about I miss you and can't wait to see you all again at camp. I guess that's all... g'bye!

Comments: Hello to everyone! I would just like to update everyone as to how camp is developing. We do have a camp director and that announcement will be next week. Peter Benson's new title is the Eagle Island Property Manager and I am the Outdoor Program Manager. I know for some that's not important however all question and comments, regarding property or maintenence need to be directed to Peter. I specifically handle the Outdoor program, the development and implementation of programs at both council camps as well as adult outdoor training. All questions and/or concerned need to be addressed to peter regarding donations for property or maintenence. We do need a NEW ice maker if anyone is interested. Sailing session 2 is closed as well as sunfishers session 3. Water related programs are going fast! Yours in Girl Scouting! Carol Chu

Comments: I'm finally getting around to a great suggestion to customize the guest book entries (thank you Chris Frey). We can add anything we want - Dates attended, Decades attended, Staff/Camper/Admin, whatever. If you think of something we could include please either post it here or send me email. I think I'll aim for the end of March to implement it.

as usual, any suggestions welcome! i know i haven't done anything about some of them yet, but they're sitting in my queue waiting for technical inspiration or moral judgement. such as unfuzzing maureen's pictures... song corrections... (no one has sent me any song contest lyrics...)

Comments: Greetings one and all! I can't believe that we are nearing the six-month mark since residence camp of '98 ended. On one hand it feels like years yet the other it's been moments since I stepped off the 'LBH' and made my way up the driveway. I know that EIC will always hold a very special place with me ...the years of work weekends and summer of '98. Mariners rock the perfect place to "catch the wind"... We need to remember how important this camp is for all of us (young and old) and that we need to maintain it for future Girl Scouts. *C*I*T* POWER!! Good Night Scouts!

Comments: Greetings from the winter wonderland that is Michigan. I was the Arts & Crafts Director this past summer and I tell you that EIC gets in your blood. It's like that Peace Corps theme, "the toughest job you'll ever love." My summer at EIC solidified my commitment to Girl Scouting. I grew up in Scouts and even went to Sangam (WAGGGS World Center in Pune, India) with a team from GSUSA in 1992 but had not been active for several years. I moved to the Ann Arbor area in November and I am now a Membership Marketing Executive with Huron Valley Girl Scout Council. I'm not able to volunteer anymore but I reach so many more girls and volunteers this way. Thanks again for an unforgettable summer and a new direction in life.

Comments: I love reading these pages to hear from old friends. It's great to know how many people love the Island. I was talking with Pete Benson about what makes it such a specialcamp. How about sharing your ideas? Please be specific. I know that it is a place where you can be your true self. Many of us can not forget Eagle Island, and name it as the most important influence on our lives. Why? What is it that makes it the way it is? What makes EIC more than just a camp in the woods? What gives it its soul. What thing(s), place(s), tradition(s), activities, values, (you name it) should not be changed because you believe they would change the essence of the Island? If there is not enough room on these pages I would love to have you email me at home: hist-gov@k12.oit.umass.edu. Yes, friends, I am asking you to be deep.

Comments: Hi everybody, as many people may already know, Ro is not coming back as director in 1999. I am not "in the loop" so i won't be the first to hear who is hired to be the new camp administrator and EIC director. I did just send a message to the council address for camp, and asked that somene please sign the guestbook with the info when they find out. ... ... on the nerdy webmistress side, i found a fun java applet; wouldn't it be great to have pictures of EIC like this: http://www.behere.com and look at the image gallery. However, it takes a several thousand dollar attachment for your camera, so i can't afford it. maybe i'll find someone to rent it from. ... ... I'm already looking forward to WW'99! -cindy

Comments: I went to EIC for 5 years and I look back on those summers and just have to smile because it was such an amazing place. I miss sailing on the Dawn Treader and singing songs after dinner and hiking out to Islanders and sailing races and the song contest and the play. I hope one day I'll have the chance to return. In the meantime, could someone post some of the slow songs. I have some of the lyrics, but my collection of camp songs is dearly lacking and I can only remember fragments of the songs I loved best. If you could just post the winners of song contests, that would be sufficient to bring back all the wonderful memories...

Comments: Yeah, yeah, I've been here before. I'd just like to say that even though a lot of us are seeing changes occur these past summers, this guestbook is full of rave reviews from campers and counselors alike. No matter what hardships we went through, it's obviously not all that bad. I hope that everyone returns next year, even those who didn't attend this past summer. I know I've been through a lot (8 summers) with EIC and I plan on working there, and maybe coming back as a big time person thingy, women's weekend, working at family camp, precamp, etc. etc. I miss everyone!

Comments: Hey everyone. A lot of people seem sort of leniant towards what's happening to tbe island. Some talk of making the camp more girl-scouty. Personally I thought the basis of Girl Scouts was having true friends, no matter how old or young they are, or what race they are, and EIC made that all happen. I felt like the whole camp was like one group of friends, and everyone sang . Now I'm being told it's inappropriate to have a friendship with my counselors. To me that sounds more like school than Girl Scouts. Units are isoating themselves and this, along with other factors, are what will be the end of EIC and the birth of GIRL SCOUT CAMP (eagle island). And about the songs, Tucker once said, "If we don't learn the slow songs we'll be singing the Duck Song for the rest of our camp lives." See you all next year.

Comments: HI everyone. I know that there has been a lot of stuff going around, about how this camp is changing so much for the worse. I love EIC just as much as the next girl, I have been going there since I moved to NJ, as a troop camper, resident camper, and family camper. I love the people there, both old a new (Eliza and Chuckles, Thunder and Wendy, Twig and Rock, etc...) Anyway, all I have to say is, I had a lot of fun this year. True, I loved having eliza read Cradel to us, but I still had a lot of fun readng it ourselves (Swede came into my cabin, undressed me...). There are a lot of people that complained 80% of the time at EIC. I think that a lot of poeple are looking at EIC at what it was, and what it should be, and not what it is. There are certain "aspects" of EIC everyone doesn't like, but it seemed that when I was there, poeple were too depressed, they didn't want to have fun. They avoided it at all costs. People who used to jump up and smile at the ducky song, just sulked in their

Well this was my first year at EIC and if I must say it was a great experience. Being at camp really showed that the outdoors can really be fun. If we all look past the rain we had, you would find friendships that will never end. We all made memories that will never be forgotten. They will be remembered for years to come. I wish you all the best of luck in all of your future aspirations. I hope to see you all next year at the peppiest camp around. Always remember that " There is so much in the world for all of us, only if we had the eyes to see, the hand to gather it, and the heart to love" that is what exactly Eagle Island is.Love You all Thunder keep in touch

I think if everyone thinks long enough, you will all think of something in which you learned at camp. Wether it be the trust of a great friend or how to do something you never experienced doing before. Everyone at camp was great so never think different. Lead great lives and take care of your selves...... Peace and happiness to you all.Lots a love to everyone each day.......

Something that makes the friendships more true, more honest, and more lasting. Although these past several years have brought certain disasters, a friend taught me a valuable lesson. She said, "It is the people that make the Island what it is. Those people that love the Island & who keep returning are special. Those who are (however subtly or not) ruining the place that we love do not love it themselves. Because they cannot understand the way that we feel, they will soon be gone. Those who are left will be the ones who have been there all along, the ones who love the island, still standing strong & ready to make a new beginning. For anyone who may understand what I am talking about- I love you and miss you terribly. See you soon.

I plan to continue returning forever and ever b/c camp life, not school life, makes up 99% of me. A suggestion to whom it may concern: women's weekend be for campers as well, those under 18, if possible. I'd love to go and see my old counselors as that may be the only possible way to do it. Comments: Wow! I was really suprised to find this page! I attended EIC in 1984 (session 2) and was in the canoe trip unit that went canoeing and camping for a week on the lakes of upper NY. It was great fun! I still have my Youth Sunday booklet with lots of great songs, now if only I could remember the tunes. If there is anyone out there who went on this trip I would love to hear from you.

Comments: Have experienced Women's weekend at Eagle Island 1997. We had a tent site overlooking Lake Saranac, swam, experienced funyaking, sailed, and went star gazing aboard the camp launch. The food was good, company great, scenery breathtaking, also did crafts. Plan to return in '99.

Comments: EIC as you all know is the greatest place!! I think that it is wonderful that there is an Eagle Island page for people to look at and see how wonderful it truly is. Eagle Island is like my home away from home and I will never EVER forget it. I better see lots of you at camp this year!! :) This webpage was a great idea and it is good that people thought of a guest book! With Love, Light, and Happiness, From a Fellow EICer!

Comments: Hey all EIC-ers. Who would have thought that EIC would have a web site and we'd be communicating electronically. It's a far cry from those mimeographed Reded. scripts from the Essex County Fair, huh?The Island is still a huge part of me, would love to be in touch with old camp friends, co-counselors, etc.!Let's definately work on Eliza's song contest project . . .

Comments: hi hi hi, how are you all?? well, this page definatly turned out to be great, and you know what, i'd really luv to come meet you cindy now that i've told you hokey camp songs (they just go on and on don't they?) and my ideas for the future of camp. Thanx for mentioning me, and those pictures are really fabulous cause they're not of campers doing stuff, they're of part of the reason camp's great, the scenery. My mom always told me that EIC was special because it's an island and because it's beautiful. For those of you that don't know, my mom was an eicer too!!! well, as usual, i've talked too much, but I LUV THIS PAGE, but not more than camp. okay bye elyse

Comments: Hi! I'm trying to compile a song contest history (what years and by whom songs were sung, who won, lyrics, etc). If you remember any of this information from your years at camp, please email me at err20@columbia.edu (Oh, the things I'll come up with to procrastinate writing...). Looking forward to seeing everyone at Women's Weekend! Cindy- Thanks again for doing this; it looks fabulous.

Comments: Thanks to Elyse, Anne and Eliza for suggesting this! I hope that returning campers and prospective campers (as well as old fogies such as myself) can write in and answer each others' questions, and share reminiscences. Now that I've got that counter, I know that there are a few visitors besides myself... -cindy
