First attended EIC as (a) Camper sometime
in 1961-1970
Thank-You!This summer was my daughter, Bonnie’s, last summer as a camper.
She had been attending EIC each summer for the past 8 years (with the
exception of 1996). As I sat on the beach during the last campfire of third
session, I think I cried as much as she. I remembered my last campfire when
I was “too old” to return. Little did I know that I’d be going back as a
Woman’s Weekender, Bus Chaperone, and Driver. On
our ride home, I asked her how she felt now that she would not be returning
as a camper. She said that she was sad, of course, but that her past two
weeks were the best time she had ever had and that she had put closure to a
part of her childhood. When she said that, I thought of the re-dedication
ceremony and the speech given by the spirit of childhood. Those of us who go back year after year, try to find the peace we
enjoyed and the friendships we made as children and adults. As Chief Eagle
concludes his speech, “Let children always come here,” I hope girls will
always be on Eagle Island, no matter how “old” we are!To all those who have
played a part in her years as a camper—the Council, Camp Directors (Mimi,
Amy, Ro), Counselors (Cara, Ellen, Eliza, etc.), staff, chaperones, etc. I
would like to say thank you for your time, energy and devotion. Camp has
made a definite impact on Bonnie. Her memories will be with her the rest of
her life. In her years at camp, she has made hundreds of new acquaintances,
has developed new friendships, and acquired many skills. During her camp
experience, she learned to water ski, sail, canoe, backpack, hike, kyack,
swim, etc., etc. Where else can a girl learn so much and have fun doing it?It won’t be long until she comes to Women’s Weekend
with me! Who knows, maybe she’ll even send a daughter to EIC one day!Again,
thank you all for giving my daughter a world of experiences and a lifetime
of memories.Sincerely,Jane Park
